Hp office jet pro 8030 printer could not download an update. Goes to screen that says retry/ok. Pressing ok takes it to maintenance after it’s done then it will print. But then goes back to download screen. And have to go through maintenance again. Suggestions.

Hi @KayR34,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I’m really sorry you’re stuck in an update loop. That’s frustrating, especially when it interrupts your workflow and forces you into maintenance each time. Let’s gently guide your OfficeJet Pro 8030 out of that cycle and back to smooth printing.

Step 1: Power Reset & Network Check

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Unplug its power cable from the wall outlet.
  3. Wait for 60 seconds—this clears temporary memory.
  4. Plug it back in and turn it on.
  5. Go to Settings → Network Setup → Print Network Configuration to ensure it’s connected properly.

A stable network is key to downloading updates successfully.

Step 2: Update via Embedded Web Server (EWS)

Updating directly via your printer’s EWS often bypasses touchscreen quirks:

  1. Find the printer’s IP address via Settings → Network Setup or on your printed network config page.
  2. In a browser, visit:
    http://<printer_IP_address>/
  3. Go to Tools → Firmware Update (or Printer Updates) and follow the prompts. If it needs a proxy, you’ll see field prompts.

This method is more reliable than relying solely on the touchscreen.

Step 3: Manual Firmware Update via USB (If Supported)

If the EWS attempt fails, do a firmware update via USB:

  1. Visit the official HP support page for the OfficeJet Pro 8030: HP OfficeJet Pro 8030 All-in-One Printer series | HP® Support
  2. Download the latest firmware update (usually .exe or .bin).
  3. Plug the printer into a Windows PC via USB, and run the update utility.
  4. Follow the on-screen steps, it’ll load the firmware directly and usually breaks update loops.

Step 4: Confirm Auto-Update Settings

Once updated, ensure your printer is set to handle updates cleanly:

  • On the touchscreen: go to Setup → Printer Maintenance → Update the Printer → Printer Update Options, then select “Install Automatically (Recommended)”.

This helps ensure future updates download and apply seamlessly.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
