Hi @Sandtunnel67,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

You're right to be frustrated seeing the same HP USB driver update (44.1.2402.1741) fail repeatedly with error 0x80070103 issue on Windows 11, especially with older HP printers like your OfficeJet 5255.

Here’s how to fix it and stop the update from bothering you:

1. Manually Install the Latest HP Driver

Windows Update may be trying to install an outdated or incompatible driver.

2. Uninstall USB Driver from Device Manager

  1. Press Windows + X → select Device Manager.
  2. Expand Universal Serial Bus Controllers.
  3. Look for any Hewlett-Packard USB device.
  4. Right-click and choose Uninstall device.
  5. Disconnect the printer, restart your PC, and reconnect it.

3. Use Windows Update Troubleshooter

  • Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other Troubleshooters.
  • Run the Windows Update troubleshooter to clear stuck updates

4. Hide the Problematic Update

Microsoft used to offer a tool called wushowhide.diagcab to block specific updates:

  • Download it from Microsoft's official site.
  • Run the tool and hide the HP USB update.

Note: Some users reported that this tool doesn’t always work for this specific update.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Hello,

I tried 1, 2, 3, however unsuccessful. Rebooted and so on. I will try number 4 but wasn't sure to download it or not just me being very suspicious I guess. As long as this HP out of date driver update does not interfere with my security features or any other updates I guess I could live with it? Do you think I should update to a new printer? I guess they are just like computers they also become old and outdated.

Thanks,

@Sandtunnel67
