Laserjet 4
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

This has been a common question but not addressed recently so the board system suggests I post a new one.

I have an LJ4 which we got refurbed just before lockdowns, because its a great workhorse and we're a poor arts charity. I have every reason to suppose it works.
But the computer runs Win10, and nothing is supported.
I have wandered these pages, and tried the various solotions that worked for some people, but they're not working for me
One involved downloading from here [www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=Laserjet%204%20Plus]  and i'm not enrirely convinced i was dfoing the right thing - win doesn't seem to think there's an actual driver in the folder. Maybe it's in one of the other packages here [https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/LaserJet-Printing/Win8-Win10-driver-for-Laserjet-4Plus/m-p/5924912/hig... suggests the 6th one on the list, maybe it's moved again]

The other way that looked promising was installing a 5e driver, like for the LJ 3390 series, but that too isn't working for me.
It occurred to me the problem might be PORTS - I had tried installing on LP1 and also [because of a different solution] on USB001, both shared and un-shared, to no avail - but we hasd always communicated with this printer via ethernet, so perhaps it's a different port - I don't know much about them, or how to create them, though I came across the opportunity while exploring.
Or there might just be a more methodical way of doing it, with steps that I'm missing out because of ignorance.

Wish could just find the driver, pop it in the relevant directory, and have it work ;->
Any wise words on this would help a cash-poor arts not-for-profit 😄
