OFFICEJET PRO 8035
macOS 15.0 Sequoia

The HP software just updated on my iMac. When opening the software it immediately goes to a screen that says "Enable Local Network permissions for the HP app." When I press the "Open Permissions" bar, it takes me to my computer's Bluetooth screen within the Privacy and Security controls. Bluetooth is already enabled for my printer (OfficeJet Pro 8035) and the printer is wifi enabled. However, no matter what I do to enable bluetooth (which I don't believe my printer has), the Enable Local Network permissions screen won't disappear and I cannot access the HP software. I can easily print documents from my computer but I need to scan documents. Why is HP software so horrible?

Thanks for your response, Kuroi. It's still an issue for me, even after following your suggestions. Right now I can easily use my iPhone app to scan documents. I'll keep using that workaround.

Hi @ALG10,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP software on your iMac is stuck on the “Enable Local Network permissions” screen even though your printer is Wi-Fi enabled and Bluetooth isn’t relevant. Let’s go through some steps to fix this so you can scan again.

Verify Local Network Permission

On your iMac, go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network.

Ensure the HP app is checked. This allows the app to find your printer on the Wi-Fi network.

Note: HP’s software sometimes links this permission request to Bluetooth settings in error, but it is actually the Local Network permission that matters for scanning.

Reset HP Software Permissions

Quit the HP app completely.

Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network, and uncheck the HP app.

Restart your iMac, then go back and check the HP app again.

Check Firewall Settings

Ensure that your firewall isn’t blocking network access for the HP software.

You can temporarily disable the firewall to test if scanning works, then re-enable it.

Use HP Smart App as an Alternative

Download the HP Smart app from the Mac App Store.

It often bypasses these permission issues and allows scanning over Wi-Fi without needing Bluetooth.

Remove and Re-add Printer in HP Software

Open Printers & Scanners in System Settings.

Remove your OfficeJet Pro 8035, then re-add it via Wi-Fi.

Sometimes the HP app fails to recognize the printer after an update until it is re-added.

Reinstall HP Software if Needed

If the above doesn’t work, uninstall the HP software completely.

Download the latest HP drivers and software for macOS from the HP website.

Install it, granting all requested Local Network permissions during setup.

I hope this helps.
