Hi @Benzbrocls63s,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

The issue you’re facing certificate expired after updating to macOS Tahoe 26.0.1 problem with HP printers on recent macOS versions. It happens because the printer’s encryption credentials or SSL certificate used for secure communication with macOS have expired, causing the printer to go idle.

Fix for “Encryption Credentials Expired” / Certificate Error

1. Update Printer Firmware

  • Go to HP Official HP® Support.
  • Enter your printer model.
  • Download and install the latest firmware update.
  • Restart the printer after the update.

2. Remove and Re-add Printer Using IP

If the firmware update doesn’t resolve it:

  • On your printer, find its IP address (usually under Network Settings).
  • On your Mac:
    • Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
    • Remove the printer.
    • Click Add Printer → select IP tab.
    • Enter:
      • Address: Printer’s IP
      • Protocol: IPP
      • Leave Queue blank
      • Name: Auto-filled
    • Click Add. This bypasses the expired certificate issue for printing (but scanning may not work this way).

3. Reinstall HP App

4. Check macOS Permissions

  • Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network.
  • Ensure HP Smart has permission.
  • Also, check Firewall settings and allow HP Smart and HP Device Communication.
