If the printer firmware needs to be updated,

OR

It is outdated and you want to update the printer firmware,

You can do so manually.

Download the Update package to your computer and then run the installation package.

Information and Download for the Firmware:

HP ENVY 5000 All-in-One Printer series Firmware Update

What else?

It is not so important that the HP Support Assistant cannot run the printer firmware update.

It might be irritating, but using HPSA is not the only way to accomplish the goal.

Yeah, but...

If you can't stand it, you have the option to uninstall the HP Support Assistant and reload it.

Will that work?

Maybe - we don't have any direct control over what the HPSA is doing.  Mostly it works or you remove / reload it.

Application type of the HPSA can be uninstalled in Settings > Apps > Apps and Features

OR

If you are running the "Software" version of HPSA that exists in Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features,

then

After HPSA is uninstalled, also uninstall HP Support Solutions

NOTE:  Confirm to remove all your personal data when you uninstall the HPSA.

After the software is uninstalled, Restart the computer and log in.

Open the HPSA website > Download and Install the latest version of the software.

Download, Save, Install the latest supported HP version of the HP Support Assistant

Thanks for the feedback. Have solved the issue which turned out to be malware interfering with the install I believe. So the firmware's updated and I've uninstalled HPSA which I was having difficulties doing so.

Thanks
