it appears I was able to make this printer work by taking these steps.
1. I’ve used a USB cable to hook up the newly purchased Deskjet 2680 to my MacBook Pro that runs Mac OS 10.8.5.
2. Through System Preferences>Print and Scan, I set the Printer as HP DeskJet 2600 series.
3. The driver is set to HP Deskjet 2510 series.
Should this fail, I’ll let you all know.
