Hi @iris349,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I know how frustrating it can be when the scan feeder (ADF) doesn’t work, especially when you're relying on the HP Smart app to get things done quickly. Let’s walk through the steps to get your HP printer scanning from the feeder again.

1. Check the Document Feeder (ADF)

  • Load documents face up (or as marked on the feeder tray).
  • Inspect for jams or dust: Open the ADF cover and gently clean the rollers with a lint-free cloth.
  • Try scanning from the printer panel (if available): If it works there, the issue is likely with the HP Smart app.

2. Update Everything

  • HP Smart App: Make sure it’s the latest version from HP Smart.
  • Printer Firmware: Open HP Smart > Printer Settings > Advanced Settings > Tools > Firmware Update.

3. Reconfigure the Scanner in HP Smart

  • Open HP Smart → Go to Settings > Add/Remove Printer → Remove your printer.
  • Re-add it by searching on the same Wi-Fi network.
  • When scanning, manually select “Document Feeder” as the source.

4. Run HP App

5. Check Scanner Settings

  • In HP Smart or Windows Fax & Scan:
    • Set Source to Document Feeder or ADF.
    • Adjust resolution and paper size if needed.

6. Advanced: Factory Reset (Last Resort)

  • If nothing works, a factory reset may help:
    • On the printer, press and hold Cancel + Wireless buttons for 5–10 seconds until the power light blinks.
    • Reconnect the printer to Wi-Fi and re-add it to HP Smart.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
