I enrolled a printer into instant ink I received from an estate sale to get my free trial and to begin to get ink as printer shows needed. When I go to see with the ink will arrive, says the printer is not connected to my instant ink enrollment as it is currently using non-instant ink cartridges so ink not coming. This also means it will not connect to my printer for a refill with those cartridges installed. SO, my question is can I purchase any instant ink cartridges (say from eBay) to get instant in enrollment to connect, or are they programmed to be printer-specific thus will not work for any other printer.

IF I understand you correctly,
- The printer is able to print,
- You are waiting for the first shipment of Instant Ink cartridges after having enrolled in an Instant Ink print-by-page plan,
- The printer is aware that the existing cartridges are not Instant Ink.
Assuming you are able to enroll:
The first shipment takes a while to arrive - typically ten to fourteen days, although with so much resource dedicated to transferring vaccine, emergency supplies, holiday orders around the world, anything is possible (delays).
Details
- The Instant Ink cartridges are tied to the Instant Ink subscription.
- Any Instant Ink cartridges you find anywhere OTHER than from HP will not work.
Why? Instant Ink cartridges remain the property of HP.
Instant Ink cartridges are tied to the subscription.
After a subscription is terminated, the cartridges lock and can never be used.
Essentially, the cartridges are tied to the printer - they are tied to the subscription (which must be active).
Any Instant Ink Cartridges you find on eBay or anywhere else (that is not HP) are not going to work. Not.
You'll need to wait.
