I have used my HP office jet 5744 for many years and no problems - I could I print and scan at the touch of button -  but now with the app I can’t. I didn’t ask for it and it is NOT customer friendly.

I’ve been wasting my time and struggling for over a week to do the simple tasks of print and scan unsuccessfully. Even the YouTube has 10 units.
Can someone from HP reply or contact me

Can you give me back the old Smart system as this new one is awful and all I want to do is print and scan.

Can you ask a real person from HP - not a bot -  to reply? I see that many others have the same problem so presumably you are concerned by the reception of the introduction (?) of your new app - I hope you are.

Sorry but your reply only compounds the problem(s) with this new App - its too long winded and complicated that I've lost the will to live!!

All I want to do is print what I see on my computer and scan important documents - before I could do this in minutes, now I don't even know where to start. However well meaning your instructions are, just looking at them gives me a headache. It's written in a language that is impossible to easily understand by people who live their lives in another world that not everybody does, and it shouldn't be.

I'm afraid it's back to the drawing board HP.. I haven't got the time to continue with this - I'm going to check out the competition.

Please keep my comments - I want to know that action is being taken further up the company otherwise whats the point in having 'community' if no one listens; its just corporate wallpaper!

Actions speak louder than words, and I'm still unable to use the App or my printer. Thats not good, is it?

Your comments have not been removed.

Only my post was edited.

I understand that my answer was not received in the spirit in which it was intended.

Two images remain in the original post --

HP App Main menu & HP App "My Printer" menu with Print / Scan options.

The next step for me is to remove my first post in its entirety.

That I will do as a means to fully extract myself from the conversation and to make room for others to answer as they can do.

Hi @LisboaFun

I completely understand how discouraging it feels when something that used to be quick and simple now feels complicated. You’ve already shown great patience in trying to adapt to the new HP App, and I appreciate the effort you’ve put in.

Let’s focus on getting your OfficeJet 5744 back to the straightforward print‑and‑scan experience you’re used to.

Steps to print and scan using the HP App

Install and open the HP App

  • On Windows or macOS, download it from the Microsoft Store or Mac App Store.
  • On mobile devices, it’s available in the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android).

Add your printer

  • Make sure your OfficeJet 5744 is powered on and connected to the same Wi‑Fi network as your computer or phone.
  • Open the HP App → click “Add Printer.”
  • Select your OfficeJet 5744 from the list. If it doesn’t appear, choose “Set up a new printer” and follow the guided steps.

Print a document

  • In the HP App, select your printer.
  • Choose “Print Documents.”
  • Browse to the file you want to print and click “Print.”

Scan a document

  • In the HP App, select your printer.
  • Choose “Scan.”
  • Place the document on the scanner glass or in the feeder.
  • Click “Scan” and save the file to your computer or send it by email.

I know you’d prefer the older system, but once the HP App is set up, printing and scanning should again be just a couple of clicks. You’ve already taken the right step by reaching out, and with these instructions your OfficeJet should feel familiar and easy to use again.

If my response helped, please mark it as an Accepted Solution It helps others and spreads support. 💙 Also, tapping "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?" makes a big difference! Thanks! 😊

Take care, and have an amazing day!
