macOS 26.0 Tahoe

My HP Photosmart D7560 printer connects by USB.  The current HP utility apparently cannot detect USB connections.  Is there an older version that can?  It seems like I used to be able to use an earlier version with this printer.

Hi @macsaw,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

On macOS 26 “Tahoe,” HP changed how its printer software works; some older apps (like full-featured HP Utility) no longer automatically install. Here's how to get your Photosmart D7560 to work over USB:

Option 1: Install the Latest "HP Easy Start" and Full Feature Drivers

  1. Download HP Easy Start from HP’s website:
HP Easy Start printer software installation fails (macOS) | HP® Support
  2. Run it, and when prompted to install the HP app, click “Close”.
  3. Then click “Skip to software download”, which installs the HP Essential (Full Feature) Software, including HP Utility.
  4. After installation, navigate to System SettingsPrinters & Scanners, select your D7560, click Options & Supplies, then Open Printer Utility.

This setup restores full USB detection and access to features like printhead cleaning, ink-level monitoring, and alignment.

Option 2: Use AirPrint/USB-Only (No HP Utility)

If only basic printing matters to you, you don’t need the utility:

  1. Connect the printer via USB.
  2. Go to Apple menuSystem SettingsPrinters & ScannersAdd Printer.
  3. Choose your printer, and AirPrint should appear.

This gives you simple printing and scanning without HP's extra tools.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Sorry, VIKRAM, your messages went into the Spam folder so I am just discovering them now.  On the support page you provided a link for, I don't see any option to download "HP Easy Start".  There is an option to download "HP Smart".  Is that what I am supposed to do?

Hi @macsaw,

Thank you for following up, and no problem at all that the earlier messages went to Spam. I’m glad you’re checking in.

About HP Smart vs HP Easy Start

You are correct, the option you see on the support page is HP Smart, not HP Easy Start.

Here’s the important detail:

  • HP Smart is the current printer app that HP uses for setup, printing, scanning, etc.
  • HP Easy Start was used for older printers but may not be listed anymore on the support page, especially for older or discontinued models like many Photosmart printers.
  • Whether HP Smart works with your Photosmart model depends on how old that printer is; many older Photosmart printers are not fully supported by HP Smart.

So yes, you are right that HP Smart may not work with your Photosmart printer, and we cannot promise it will.

Take care and have an amazing day!
