I get the 8610 icon on my desktop, but it does not work like the similar install for my wife's 5200.
Wife: can select the icon and it retrieves information and brings up the HP Printer Assistant
Me: I get a setup.exe and no movement to the HP Printer Assistant
As I am trying to follow instructions that include the HP Printer Assistant, to "enable" my scan to computer, this is frustrating. Is the 8610 older and does not function the same way? I see a version of the HP Printer Assistant via the control panel and double clicking on the 8610 icon there. However, no scan options are shown. The closest I get is the third choice of Wireless Printing Online help...which goes out to the HP Smart APP. Again, this is not allowing me to follow other routines' sharing of instructions. DOES THE 8610 HAVE A DESKTOP ICON THAT WILL TRIGGER THE HP PRINTER ASSISTANT, AS IS SUGGESTED TO BE THE RESULT OF THE SET UP USING THE FULL FEATURE DRIVER/DOWNLOAD???
Thanks, ScanWisher

It seems like the printer driver is not properly installed on your computer.
Perform a clean reinstallation of pre-installed HP drivers
- In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
- Select your HP Printer
- Select Uninstall
- In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
- In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’
- Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo.
- Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
- Click on the “Drivers” tab
- Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
- Select Ok
- Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
- Close Devices and Printers, restart the computer.
Click here to download the HP Full-featured driver (HP Printer Assistant)
Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and follow the on-screen instructions.
Let me know how this goes.

Thanks for the suggestion. However, I have done this earlier today, from my problem, as responded to by Jay_G24. I am happy my printer now has returned to active status for both printing and scanning. The concern was that the 8610 icon is not doing what a) a similar setup resulted in for my 5200 printer, and b) does not allow me to follow some instructions that relate to the HP Printer Assistant, which I do not believe I have the most recent version of.
Any other suggestions on the icon are appreciated, but my main concern was to have the printer available and in service.
Thanks, ScanWisher
