Microsoft Windows 11

We have added a new printer using the HP app, which seemed to go okay. When adding the new printer via windows it adds but won't enable printing as windows is looking for new drivers.

We did not get any issues when adding the same printer to another laptop earlier,, and have been able to print from that one.

Any help gratefully received.

@GBaz63, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

It sounds like the new printer has been successfully added to your laptop, but Windows is unable to find or use the correct drivers, which is preventing you from printing. There are a few things you can try to resolve this issue:

Check for Automatic Driver Updates

Go to Device Manager:

Right-click on the Start menu and select Device Manager.

Expand the Printers section, and right-click on your printer.

Select Update Driver.

Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.

If Windows finds a newer driver, it will install it.

Install Drivers from HP Website

Sometimes the automatic driver installation from Windows doesn't work properly. You can manually download the latest drivers from HP’s website:

Go to the HP support page.

Enter your printer model and download the latest drivers for your specific version of Windows.

After downloading, run the installer and follow the instructions.

Uninstall and Reinstall the Printer

Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.

Right-click on your printer and select Remove device.

Then, disconnect and reconnect the printer, and try adding it again using the HP app or Windows.

This time, when adding the printer via Windows, make sure it also tries to find the correct drivers during setup.

Check Windows Update

Sometimes Windows may have updates that contain new drivers for hardware like printers.

Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.

Check for any available updates, especially optional ones that may contain printer drivers.

Manually Add the Printer

Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers > Add a printer.

If your printer is listed but won't print, select it and choose Troubleshoot to attempt to resolve the issue.

If not listed, try selecting The printer that I want isn't listed, and enter the printer’s IP address if it's a network printer.

Printer Troubleshooter

Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters.

Select Printer and run the troubleshooter. This may automatically detect and resolve issues related to the printer or driver.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
