Can someone help me with setting up a WIA driver for my HP Envy 5540 printer/scanner. I was encouraged to install Windows 11 which I did but now can't scan.
I tried to install a driver but it simply didn't work .
Is there a simple solution.
Hope someone can help me.

Hello,
Please check the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service to see if it is working properly by doing the following:
- On the keyboard, press the Windows flag and the R key simultaneously. The Run window opens.
- Type services.msc and OK. The Services (local) window opens.
- Double-click on Windows Image Acquisition, then click on the Connection tab.
- Check Local System Account and Allow the service to interact with the office.
- Click on the Dependencies tab and check that Remote Procedure Call (RPC) and Kernel Hardware Detection exist in the first window.
- Click on the General tab, and restart the service by clicking on Stop, then Start.
- Close the Services window.
- Try to scan with HP Scan.
If the Kernel hardware detection dependency does not exist, please add it as follows:
- Simultaneously press the Windows flag and the X key.
- Click Windows Terminal (admininitrator), then Yes.
- Type Sc config stisvc depend= rpcss/ShellHWDetection, and press Enter key.
- Restart the computer.
- Try to scan with HP Scan.
Please use the HP ENVY 5540 Series Full Software and Drivers to install your printer.
In case of need, don't hesitate to contact us.

Hi Mans,
Thanks for replying . I am not particularly good with this stuff and did try what you said.
Point 3 - I DClicked on Windows Image Acquisition but couldn't find a connection tab - there was an OK tab.
Point 4- Couldn't work that out.
Point 5 - Went to this and found RPC but not Kernel Hardware detection.
So I tried to add KH detection but it would not accept the message you said to type in. I tried several times .
Is there something that I must do to get the message to accept.? Maybe spacing or something a very sensitive.

Hello and thanks for your return,
If the Kernel hardware detection dependency does not exist, please add it as follows:
- Simultaneously press the Windows flag and the X key.
- Click Windows Terminal (admininitrator), then Yes.
- Type cmd, and press Enter key.
- Type Sc config stisvc depend= rpcss/ShellHWDetection, and press Enter key.
The message [SC] ChangeServiceConfig successfully is displayed below the command; this is normal. - Restart the computer.
- Try to scan with HP Scan.
