I have an MFP-4301-FDN   WORKED GREAT via USB on Windows 10.  Just upgraded office to new Windows 11 pc's and this printer is now a joke. ( SINCE 25H2 ) I have read many post with same or simular issues, and many have "resolutions" to uninstall & reinstal in a certain manor, MOST OF WHICH DO NOT RESOLVE THE ISSUE.  I am trying 1 more suggestion tonight after hours, to get this printer to work.  I will repost a working solution tomorrow, if found.  Once again HP one of the Worlds most common printer companies, has failed to Work with Microsoft, the Worlds most common computer company .....  THINK ABOUT THAT FOR A MINUTE.    More details to come ....

Install steps:

1. disconnect the printer from the computer and do not reconnect until later

2. install the dot4x86 file that I posted the link for

3. download this UPD driver https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/printers/UPD/upd-pcl6-win10-x64-8.2.0.26778.zip

4. Run the install but cancel when it wants to search for a printer.

5. Reboot the computer

6. Connect the printer and it should automatically detect and install the printer using the UPD driver.

I have performed this exact sequence on a couple of systems for clients in the past 2 weeks.

a better description of does not work would be helpful in trying to provide a solution. One common issue is that Microsoft does not include the full required usb dlls to make detection and installation of printers work properly.

Installing this HP supplies MSI file may help https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/COL44939/fp-148007-1/Dot4x64.msi

Sorry, So "does not work" =  no abillity to print anything. Printer shows up in "devices" with a message that says it might have a driver update ... Scanner still works ????  But the printer does not show in Print Managment ! OR in Device Manager "Printer Queues". So I uninstalled ALL printer software and looked  everywhere to find any instances or queues, and rebooted both printer and system "which is new", Downloaded lastest 26meg recommended installer, which goes thru the whole installation, and when done....Printer is listed again in "setting devices / Printer & scanners " BUT will not work & is still not listed in "Device Manager/ Printing Queues" or in "Print Management"   ???   So we have an issue.  I'll be starting from scratch tonight Once again in an effort to get basic printing to work.  On a side note, Upon initial install it worked the very first time, until the system rebooted. I tried this on a 2nd rig (also new, same build), same result. Somethings Wonky

Have you tried using the HP Universal Printer Driver?

So the HP universal print driver ...For the MFP-4301-FDN, I believe they list like 4 over time, do not have installers, And I did not have the time, or think it would be this dissatifying trying to simply instal a printer. Would you be willing to walk me thru exactly which driver I would use, and how to install or make it work ! As it may be useful later tonight if the latest sugestion of having to ALSO use a different USB port & let Windows install the device VS using HP's software...  Suggested by a user on Reddit

THIS: Worked !  Thank you !  # 4 never had to cancel as it never asked ....Just clicked finish ! Before I started with your list I simply removed the printer from Windows 11 device list, and changed USB ports on the back of the system.. Then followed your steps, rebooted All was working, and the device manger list was correct and funtional. Thank you Again , those links made this a simple repair. WHY CANT HP CREATE FIXES for this ??? And after all this THE SCANNER still works well both directions ! OH This also resolved a popup message I was getting everytime we opened the scanner , as it had an issue WE had to always just say "ok" and then it would work ......NOW no error popup     THANK YOU
