I connected to my printer to my home network using the protocol associated with this IP address: https://192.168.223.1/. That protocol involved connecting to the Direct-30-HP ENVY 6400 series on my wireless networks. That worked - through that IP address, I was able to connect my printer to my home router. At that time "Direct-30" did not ask for a password; my computer connected to it directly.

Now I am trying to re-connect to that IP address through that Direct-30-HP. It is asking for a WPA2 Password. I never gave it a password the first time. So I have no idea what it is. It is NOT my HP login password, my serial number, the password to my home wireless network.

How do I re-connect to that IP so that I re-run the admin portal and re-connect my printer? At the end of this, my printer cannot connect over wireless to my MacBook. The only way it will connect is via USB-3. But, I know my printer AND my MacBook are on the same wireless network.

Hello @tlilly, Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the HP envy 6455 printer.

We appreciate the opportunity to assist you and are glad we could help work toward a resolution. We hope our support has been valuable.

To help us get started on resolving your issue, could you please try a few troubleshooting steps provided below so that I can assist you further?

To locate the WPA2 password (Wi-Fi Direct password) for your HP Envy printer, you can either print a Network Configuration/Information Report or access it through the printer settings. Since the Wi-Fi Direct password is automatically generated, each printer has a unique password.

Method 1: Print the Information Report (Recommended)

  1. Ensure the printer is turned ON and loaded with paper.
  2. Press and hold the Information (i) button until all buttons illuminate.
  3. Press the Information (i) and Cancel (X) buttons simultaneously.
  4. The printer will print an Information Report.
    • Check the Wi-Fi Direct section for the SSID (name) and WPA2 password.

Method 2: Using the HP Smart App

  1. Open the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device.
  2. Select your printer and go to Printer Settings or Advanced Settings.
  3. Navigate to Networking > Wi-Fi Direct > Setup.
  4. Enter the printer PIN (if prompted) to view the Wi-Fi Direct name and password.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
