I have a new HP DeskJet 2842e Sky Ride printer.  Don't want Cloud printing.  WANT LOCAL PRINTING ONLY (USB hookup).  Print jobs keep getting sent to HP ePrint.  Can't get away from it.  How can I?

@LeeMeLone, Welcome to the HP Support Community – it’s great to have you here!

I appreciate you taking the time to share your question. I'm more than happy to assist with this and provide a solution that works for you.

I understand you want to use your HP DeskJet 2842e for local USB printing only, without any cloud services like HP ePrint or HP Smart. Here's how you can set it up properly:

Uninstall HP Smart (Optional but Recommended)

HP Smart is designed for cloud-based features. If you don’t want any cloud printing:

  • Go to Settings > Apps > Installed Apps
  • Find HP Smart, click Uninstall

Download and Install the Basic HP Driver (USB only)

Use HP’s basic driver package that supports USB printing without cloud features:

  • Go to: Official HP® Support
  • Select your OS (e.g., Windows 11)
  • Download “HP Easy Start Printer Setup Software” or “Basic Drivers”
  • During installation, choose USB connection, not Wi-Fi or HP Smart

Disable HP ePrint (if active)

HP ePrint is a cloud-based feature. To disable:

  • Open the printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS):
    • Connect printer via USB
    • Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers
    • Right-click your printer > Printer Properties > Web Services
    • If HP ePrint is enabled, click Remove Web Services
  • Alternatively, reset Web Services via the printer control panel (if available)

Set USB Printer as Default

  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers
  • Right-click the USB-connected printer > Set as Default Printer

Avoid HP Cloud Print Queues

If print jobs are still going to HP ePrint:

  • Open Print dialog in your app (e.g., Word)
  • Select the correct USB printer name (not HP Smart or ePrint)
  • You may need to remove cloud queues from Settings > Printers & Scanners

I hope your issue is now resolved. If not, feel free to reply and we’ll continue helping until everything’s sorted!
