Hello again everyone, I have an HP Envy 4520 All in One Printer that has been acting up recently, and when i try to contact Hewlett Packard to support THEIR product, I am being asked for warranty information, or they will not assist me....
Of course, my warranty is out of date, as there never was a warranty on the printer, and so in order to ask for help, with a defective product, I have to pay to ask questions.
This seems to be the most ridiculous excuse for customer service that I have ever heard of, next to Microsoft, who routinely charges for technical support, if their products are malfunctioning.
So, instead of being able to work with an agent to solve my issues, I have to get some Troubleshooting steps sent to my Email, and work it out on my own, unless I want to pay them $20 for 14 days of support.
This leads me to ask, was there ever a warranty on this product, or is that just a way to make contacting the for help more complex??

I am sorry you continue to be unhappy.

Product Introduced July through August 2017
Standard warranty typically covers the first year from purchase date from HP or from an authorized retailer. - the hardware warranty comes with the printer / computer / device and covers hardware as included in the basic hardware contract. Contract inclusions, exclusions, and constraints may vary by country, of course.
That you are asked for warranty information might be due to the original warranty having expired.
and / or
The warranty information and / or expiration date you claim is contrary to the data at HP.
and / or
If the product was not registered at the time of purchase, you might be asked for purchase information. IMPORTANT: To the extent that none of this information would be available to those of us outside of HP, this is a guess.
and / or
If the device is indeed outside of the basic warranty time frame,
If the issue is not covered under the constraints of that contract,
If you did not purchase a Care Pack contract and / or the issue is not covered under that contract,
then (at least in the USA and to my knowledge),
A fee is charged for support, including that offered over the phone.
Have a Care Pack?
Care Pack contracts, depending on the location and device, are available for purchase - contracts vary by location, type of coverage, and device.
Although HP retains record of Care Pack contracts, the consumer might be asked to answer questions about that contract. In most cases, having the original email confirming the purchase of the contract is enough.
Important: Confirmation for Care Pack contract must be verified by HP using methods as directed by HP -- please do not confuse my comments with HP policy.

Recently, HP has seen an increased number of third-party support websites selling HP driver downloads or diagnostic tools. Many of these websites use the HP trademark symbol and claim to be official HP distributors.
If your product supports your operating system, HP offers your driver and software at no additional cost through the HP website.
Use caution when dealing with any website that asks you to pay for HP driver downloads or tools that claim to diagnose your HP products. These websites might not be affiliated with HP in any way.
Do not install BIOS updates from a motherboard manufacturer's website. Only install BIOS updates from HP. Installing BIOS updates from the motherboard manufacturer can prevent the computer from accepting an HP system recovery. This could result in a loss of data.

Your rant is a little misplaced and your expectations are unreasonable. HP offers free troubleshooting and updates through their website support.hp.com. Expecting them to provide live support forever for free is unreasonable. That would be like expecting a car manufacturer to provide free support on a ten year old car. There is also this forum that provides assistance from specialists in the community for free. If you want to post what your actual problem is someone may be able to provide some guidance to you.
I am a volunteer, offering my knowledge to support fellow users, I do not work for HP nor speak for HP.

This is the second time I have responded to your post, but I cannot see the first reply for some reason....
It is not a rant, as you say, so much as a statement of unfortunate facts. As I wrote in my first reply, I am confused by your unhelpful venom towards my posting, and cannot understand why you have chosen to take an aggressive standpoint in responding to me here.
I any case, to answer your rant, I do not think it is unreasonable to expect a company to stand behind its own products whatsoever, if you sold it, and it is defective, then YOU are responsible for that, warranty or no. Even if the warranty has expired, which is conveniently when most products begin to fall apart, you still took my money, and so it is still YOUR responsibility to provide support for the product.
I believe my problem WAS stated in my original posting, and you have chosen to ignore it for whatever reasoning. Irregardless of your motives here, my problem was stated that support for the product I paid for was not being provide, without a charge. I am also somewhat incensed that because I did not accept your attack on me as a Solution, you went ahead, and deleted my response post from before. That seems overly petty, and juvenile honestly. If you cannot handle criticism, then do not be so quick to dish it out!!
