We have set up a server to start managing our devices. We are MOSTLY just interested in firmware management. We have a lot of devices, 11,000+, which might be contributing to this problem, and we are looking to deploy multiple servers throughout the organization to make it more manageable, after we get past this initial round of testing.
The biggest issue I have is related to the device information tab, specifically the config tab. I was trying to create a template for a specific device so that I could intentionally "break" the device and see what the procedure is to get it back up and running. When I click on the config tab it shows "Retrieving Information" for a VERY long time. I opened the tab at 1pm yesterday, and it was still going when I went home for the day. This morning it was populated, mostly, but the network settings were not there and "retrieving" when I clicked to expand it. *Time passes* I accidentally clicked on a different device and when I came back to the first device, all of that information was gone, and it went back to "Retrieving Information". The device in question is on a different subnet than the server, but it in the same physical building and is 8 hops away with none of them longer than 3ms. It's not like I am trying to manage a device halfway across the globe.
Isn't that information supposed to be saved in SQL and the device only needs polled again when that information is considered "aged"? I've spot checked a handful of devices and not a 1 of them has this tab filled out. The server has been up and running and these devices have been active in there for a few weeks.
Where can I start trying to get that data populated in a timely fashion. Is there a log file somewhere that shows progress? Do we just have TOO many devices for one server to handle? Resource monitor wise, nothing shows more than 50% usage. In an effort to reduce polling I turned off Supply polling because we are not in charge of that management. Just looking for a place to start the troubleshooting.
