I've forgotten the web password for a DESKJET 6940.  How do  I reset or erase that password?  The manual steps to reset to factory default didn't clear the password.

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand that you want to reset the EWS password, I am glad to assist you.

How did you reset the printer to factory defaults?

Meanwhile:-

Resetting the printer to its factory default settings erases the embedded Web server (EWS) administrator password.

Follow these steps to reset the printer to the factory default settings:

1. Verify that the printer is powered on.

2. Press and hold down the Report Page button.

3. While holding down the Report Page button, press the Cancel button three times.

4. Release the Report Page button.

Login to the EWS page with the default credentials and change the password.

Username: admin

Password: "leave it blank"

Let me know how it goes.

To thank me for my efforts to help you, please mark my post as an accepted solution so that it benefits several others.

Cheers.
