What's the difference between Low, Medium and High Compression setting in HP Smart Scanning software. I tried all three and the file size is the same.

Not available - I do not believe the compression rates are documented.  I could have missed it - it has been awhile since I combed through all the documentation.

An explanation here - "file size the same"

Higher resolution or lower compression JPG's?

Thanks but I have pretty good knowledge about compression rates and file sizes already. I just want to know specifically about HP Smart software and even more specifically about Scanning Compression setting. Although you wrote a lot you didn't really answer my question.

I did see that but that's not really an answer, is it, since I still know exactly the same as I did before I asked the question. Nothing.

I do appreciate you tried to help though. Let's see if anybody else knows more.

I had the same question, but I went to the HP virtual agent and it came up with the following in their instructions for scanning:

5. Change other settings as needed (click Advanced Settings, and then Image in HP Scan):

  • Resolution: A higher resolution value increases the file size, but it also improves the quality of the image.

  • Compression: A higher compression value reduces the file size, but it also degrades the quality of the image. Choose Low for best quality, or choose High for smallest file size.

Thanks for posting.

HP Scan is different software from HP Smart for Windows.

That said, the definition is very likely the same for both.
