Hi @spottyduck,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand you want to know what “Media Type 0 1004” (and similar codes) mean on your HP Smart Tank 5105. Let’s break it down.

Media Type Codes

These codes are used internally by the printer to identify the type of paper or media being loaded.

Each code corresponds to a specific media type, such as plain paper, photo paper, envelopes, labels, or cardstock.

Examples of Codes

0 1004 – Usually refers to plain paper in the main tray.

5 1069 – Could refer to a special media type, like photo paper or card stock.

These numbers are primarily for internal logging and print job management and are not typically configurable by the user.

How to Use This Information

If your printer is showing a media type warning or mismatch, it usually means the printer detected a different type of paper than expected.

Check that the paper settings in the app or driver match the paper you are using.

No Action Needed in Most Cases

For normal printing on plain paper, these codes are mostly informational.

If you’re seeing frequent errors or warnings, try reloading paper and ensuring the correct paper type is selected in the print settings.

I hope this helps.
