What is the administrator password for MFP 4301? There is no P/N on the inside of the printer. there is a serial number and a product number. But the product number does not work as the password. How I reset it and retake control over the printer I just bought?

@JohnG35,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

The default administrator password for the HP LaserJet MFP 4301 is typically the printer’s serial number (entered in all uppercase letters). However, if that doesn’t work, it’s possible the password was changed by the previous owner or administrator.

How to Reset the Admin Password & Regain Control:

If the default credentials don’t work, you can try resetting the printer:

Option 1: Restore Factory Settings via Printer Menu

  1. On the printer’s touchscreen, go to SettingsGeneralReset.
  2. Select Restore Factory Settings.
  3. Confirm the reset. This will erase any custom admin passwords.

Option 2: Reset via Embedded Web Server (EWS)

  1. Find the printer’s IP address by printing a Configuration Page (usually found under Reports in the printer menu).
  2. Enter the IP address in a web browser to access the Embedded Web Server (EWS).
  3. Go to the Security tab and look for password reset options.

Option 3: Cold Reset (If Factory Reset is Locked)

If the printer is locked with an admin password preventing a factory reset, a Cold Reset may be required. This varies by model but generally involves:

  1. Turning off the printer.
  2. Holding down a specific button (often Cancel or a combination of keys) while powering it on.
  3. Following on-screen prompts to reset the device.

If none of these steps work, HP customer support may be able to assist, especially if you just purchased the printer and need proof of ownership for a reset.

Let me know if you need more details on a specific reset method.

Kind Regards,
