I've had my HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M477fdw since 2017.
Recently I keep seeing a repeating mark on the left side of pages of whatever was printed previously. Replaced the toner and that did not fix the problem. After scouring the internet and looking at similar issues, it seems that the Fusing Unit is damaged. Fusing Unit costs about $300.00. I have no idea what a repair shop will charge me, I saw a video online on how to fix it but... I don't know if I trust myself.
So do I buy a new printer like the M479fdw? $900?
Bring my printer to a repair shop? or try to fix it myself?
All the HP certified printer repair centers are either really far (1hr drive) or quite an ordeal to get to (over bridges into NYC).
Any advice would be appreciated!

If you can buy an OEM HP fuser for 300 it might be worth repairing it. To give you the perspective from a service center point of view, we often do not recommend the repair for the following reaons.
- typically the fusers fail between 40-50K pages and the life rating of this engine is 50K. Replacing the fuser might seem reasonable but you also need to account for the fact that the transfer belt might also fail in the near future. As you have already replaced the fuser you will feel obligated to replace the transfer belt as well and you are then close to replacement cost
- The printer is already out of warranty and any unexpected failures such as system board or ADF will be out of pocket expense.
- If you have a whole bunch of extra toners sitting around, it might be worth considering the repair. If you do not have a bunch of toners, opt for new.
While not a bad printer, too often they are purchased by people because of the price of the unit with no consideration for the cost of operation or the life rating of the device.
Hope this helps you make a decision that you are comfortable with.
