I get this pop-up when I open the printer assistant and click on Maintain Your Printer:

davef41_0-1650004498642.png

Yesterday I got all the way to 'print a test page' but the printer was unable to print a test page from the Printer Assistant.

Today I didn't get that far. If i run the Print and Scan Doctor, I can print a test page from that.

I have only had the printer for a week, I think.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Hello @davef41 ,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Open Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Devices and Printers > right-click Printer Properties

bidirectional support 1.png

activate this setting and save with OK

Thanks for helping me. It hasn't worked yet. I go to the port tab and this displays:

I'm kind of computer challenged, but please look this over and let me know what else to do.

I can't "enable bidirectional support" I tried that but that feature is not "hot". Clicking on it doesn't put the check mark in it.

Hi,

then first check the warranty.

or

use a different USB cable. Make sure the cable is not longer than 1.8 meters and is connected directly to the PC. Do not use a USB hub or extension.

If that doesn't help, try this solution.

or

Try this:

  1. shut down printer via on/off switch
  2. switch off the router
  3. shut down the computer
  4. wait about 60 sec.
  5. switch on the router, wait until the router has completely initialized itself again
  6. Switch on the printer, wait until the printer has finished its initialization
  7. switch on computer, log in (with admin rights) and wait about 10 sec.

... and now everything's working again?

If that doesn't help, here's what you need to do:

  1. Uninstall HP printer software, and then remove the printer from your Devices list.
  2. Restart the PC
  3. Close all programs
  4. download only this complete package: HP OfficeJet Pro 6970 All-in-One Print and Scan Driver and Accessories
    File name: Full_Webpack-40.16.1234-OJ6970_Full_Webpack.exe (158.0 MB)
  5. Close all programs
  6. Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo > in folder Downloads
    double-click on the Full_Webpack-40.16.1234-OJ6970_Full_Webpack.exe
  7. The installation was completed successfully, now you must ...
  8. Restart the PC again
  9. Now the installation is complete.

Document error messages accurately, even better is to take a screenshot of it and upload here.

I hope this works.

If not then answer these questions.

  1. what maintenance did you perform on your computer?
  2. How is the printer connected to your computer?
  3. When was the last time your printer worked fine?
  4. Is the printer still under warranty?

Kind Regards
Andr-1611
