I am looking for the HP Photosmart software on the HP site for the HP5600 Officejet All in one printer. Apparently it needs this software for the scan feature of the printer. Anyone know where I can find this?

Thanks again Hawk-Eye for your response and help on this matter.

I followed the initial steps that you outlined going to settings (with my printer on) and followed the menu Bluetooth and devices to printers and scanners, which revealed my printer (the HP 5600) in the menu. I clicked on that item and it revealed another menu such as "open print queue", "print test page" etc. Although I had been here many times before I did notice above this menu structure a tool bar with "HP OFFICEJET series settings"; "Scanner settings"; "HP OFFICEJET fax settings" links above the main menu items.

I clicked on the Scanner settings link and it opened the scanner menu options. One of those options was 'Get Scanner App".  Clicking on that link took me to the app page where I was assured that the software should work on my computer for my scan tool I downloaded for free and it is working.

Problem solved.

Again thanks for your help in this matter.

Hi @The_Original_1

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

You can find the HP Photosmart software and drivers for the HP Officejet 5600 series on HP’s official support page here. This page provides the latest drivers, firmware, and software compatible with Windows 11.

If you need additional guidance, HP’s general driver download portal is available here, where you can search for your specific printer model.

Let me know if you need help installing or troubleshooting the software!

Hello Hawk Eye;

I appreciate your response, but I have been to both of those links that you provided and I was unable to find the software or drivers that I am looking for. I can only assume that since the site doesn't take me directly to a further link that allows me to directly download the software that my product is no longer supported.

I have been down this road: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_2224996-1993298-16 in installing the driver but am not sure that the driver alone is going to get me where I want to be (my printer is working -just not my scanner). What I have learned to this point is the the scanner requires the HP Photosmart software. The specific error message when I try to use the scanner is:

The program could not find the destination to which the scans could be sent. Try the following:

1. Reboot the computer and restart the printer. (I tried this first but to no avail).

2. Reinstall the Photosmart software that came with the device. This is where I am stuck. I have searched the program files on my computer drive and have no photosmart software (I may have deleted it by accident not realizing that it was used by the scanner feature of the printer).

I was hoping that I could go to an archived area of HP support and get what I need. Each of the links you provided seems to only give an endless series of videos on how to install drivers and software but no actual links to the software required.

Thanks,

Phil.

Thanks for all your efforts and patience!

Commendable diagnosis, superb troubleshooting and splendid description of the issue before posting. Hats off to you on that score. 😊

In that case, you may install and use built-in drivers for your HP Officejet 5600 printer using Windows' built-in support. Here’s how:

Installing Built-In Drivers (Windows 10/11)

Connect Your Printer

  • If wired, plug the printer into your computer via USB.
  • If wireless, ensure the printer is on and connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer.

Let Windows Detect the Printer

  • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
  • Click Add a printer or scanner—Windows will search for built-in drivers.

Select Your Printer

  • If Windows detects your printer, select it and click Install driver.
  • If it doesn’t appear, click The printer that I want isn’t listed > Add a local printer.

Choose Windows’ Generic Driver

  • When prompted, select Use the driver that Windows automatically installs.
  • Click Next and complete the installation.

Using the Built-In Driver for Scanning

Open Windows Scan App

  • Type "Windows Scan" in Start and open it.
  • Select your HP printer under Scanner.

Run HP Scan & Capture (Alternative)

  • Download HP Scan and Capture from the Microsoft Store.
  • Open the app and select Document or Photo Scan.

Scan from Windows Fax & Scan

  • Open Start > Windows Fax & Scan.
  • Click New Scan, select your printer, and adjust scan settings.

Troubleshooting Built-In Drivers

  • If the printer doesn’t work, run Windows Update (Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update).

Let me know if any step needs more details!

Thanks,

Hawks_Eye
