I now work from home. I need a small footprint, relatively inexpensive Laser printer which supports the printing of PCL 5/6 and Postscript files. Generally, we used the HP Universal PCL 5 printer driver with our software in the office environment. But, now I need something for the Home Office. I really like the new Tank printer because it doesn't use cartridges and toner refill is inexpensive but those only support PCLms and do not appear to be compatible with the HP Smart Universal Printing Driver. So, I think that is out. IS there a wireless printer model that someone might recommend?

PCL5 is becoming less common and HP does not even produce current UPD for PCL5 (last release was 5.9 and current UPD is 7.0)
In terms of Smart UPD, eventually it will expand to cover just about every printer and I have personally found it supports a lot of products that are not currently listed and I think that is just a matter of tested and certified, not any real changes in the driver.
Best option for full PCL5/6 support starts at the 3101 and goes up from there (mono units)

Looks like I would need to go with the 3001dw. Seems like the only wireless option that supports PCL drivers. Or, the 4001n for wired solution. These are the only two available on the website as far as I can tell. Hate the size and expense of the toner cartridges though. Do you know of another model I should look at?
It would be great to purchase the MFP 2604sdw if I knew the Smart UPD would work. But, I can't take a chance with the companies money. Is there any way to contact HP directly for some sort of confirmation that it would work even if it is not certified?
We are in the process of updating our software generate equivalent PDF on the fly but I have to print the old PCL so that I can test and validate accuracy .
Thanks so much for your information and advice.

You could try the chat button on the sales page, they might be able to get someone to verify.
