When I copy & paste graphics or font into a document, the printer seems to blow them up by around 30% so that they don't fit on the page.

@WendyK18, Welcome to HP Support Community!

To be able to assist you better, I'd like to know the following-

  • Which application are you trying to print from?
  • Does the print preview look good?
  • What happens when you make photocopies on the printer?

Meanwhile, follow the steps below-

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor

Download HP Print and Scan Doctor and run the program. It will automatically diagnose and fix any printing/scanning issues.

For more information, go to https://support.hp.com/us-en/topic/printscandoctor

Update the printer firmware

Download available firmware updates from the HP website

With the printer on and connected to the computer, go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads, and then identify your printer. Look for and install any available firmware updates. Refer to the document HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

Check the printer driver settings. Refer to the document for help- HP Printers - Print Driver Settings Guide (Windows)

If the issue persists, I recommend you delete the driver and root level and retry, follow the steps below:

1) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2) Select your HP Printer

3) Select Uninstall

4) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’

6) Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo.

7) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe”

8). Click on the “Drivers” tab

9) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10) Select Ok

11) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12) Close Devices and Printers.

Use this link to download and install the new driver. Configure the printer and try printing.

If you still have issues, try the Windows built-in drivers. Follow the steps below:

•   Uninstall the printer drivers. Go to Control Panel - Devices and Printers - Click on "Add printer" and follow the on-screen instructions.

•    When the page prompts for the drivers, select "Windows update". The driver list will be updated.

•    Click HP, Hewlett Packard, or Hewlett-Packard in the Manufacturer pane, and then click the name of your printer in the Printers pane.

Refer to this document HP Printers - Installing and Using the Windows Built-in Print Driver for help

I have tried everything you listed and nothing makes any difference. I have wasted many, many pages of paper & ink & I have only had this printer for 6 months & I have had the issue since I bought it.

I felt it must have been in the settings but there is nowhere in the settings that looks likely to fix the issue and , even though I have spent hours talking to technicians, nobody seems to have a clue about what's happening.

I have now reinstalled the printer drivers so am starting afresh.

I have discovered that when I insert graphics (either font or illustrations) via my OCR software, and save the doc in Word as a docx file, the graphics print oversized, that is - they seem to be stretched on the right hand side to around 30 % bigger than the original size.

However, if I save the doc as a pdf, (which I have NEVER had to do before and don't wish to start doing now) it prints fine.

Regardless of what type of document it is, the preview always looks fine.

I would have to say that HP support (not in this forum) was abysmal.

I spent almost 8 hours in total doing remote sessions with various technicians, none of them from HP. I also had an attempt by scammers, who were passing themselves off as HP support personnel, to get into my laptop. Fortunately my Trend Security techs were brilliant, as were Microsoft techs - who spent more than 2 hours reloading my Windows 10 software.

Nothing that HP told me would solve the issue did anything to help and I only managed to actually speak to someone from HP when the store that I bought the printer from gave me a different phone number to get a return letter. I eventually got my return letter and will be returning the HP to the store as soon as my new printer arrives - definitely NOT an HP.

Needless to say, I will never be buying another HP product.

Thank you for your help in this forum.
