Looking for suggestions on a wireless printer.

My HP wireless printer ONLY works when I connect with a USB cable.  This has to be the worst wireless printer I have ever owned.  When it was under warranty it usually took 45 minutes and several calls to reconnect to the WiFi.   The instructions and community support forum ALWAYS indicate that the customer fixes the problem on their own by connecting with a USB cable.

WORST WIRELESS device I have ever owned.

Best Buy is getting a customer today to buy a new wireless NOT an HP printer.  Horrible product.  Worse support.

Hi @zenofile,

I'd like to help!

To assist better

  1. What device are you using the printer with, a Windows computer, Mac, Android or an iPhone?
  2. What is the status of the wireless light on the printer, steady or blinking?
  3. Are you trying to connect the printer to a home or public network?
  4.  I would like to know, is your router set to work on 2.4 GHz network or 5 GHz network band?

Keep me posted.

1.  Mac and iphone

2. steady blue

3. home network - I set it up and it worked fine.   It just stopped working.  This happens if I don’t use the printer for more than a day

4.  5 GHz

i have already answered all of these questions plus the next set of questions you plan to ask. I have spent hours on your help site.   I don’t plan to spend days going back and forth on this forum.  It’s cheaper too and faster to go but a new Epson printer

basically I am using my HP wireless printer on a usb cable.

your support model is perfectly cheap for HP and a exceptionally painful for your customers.

You state 5Ghz wireless.  If you are connecting to a newer dual band router, that is likely the issue. Typically the dual band routers are using the latest 5Ghz standard and most printers have the older one. While they are supposed to be compatible,  reality is that compatibility is not perfect. In these cases I recommend setting the 2.4Ghz channel with a unique SSID and only allowing the printer to connect to that SSID.

Thanks.  But it worked fine for weeks.  No other changes.  Just stops working.  Then I have to cable up.  Reconnect to WiFi.  And it Works again.  Then just stops again. Then cable up, and repeat

basically my wireless printer requires a wire.
