I recently hooked up a LaserJet Pro200 M251nw wirelessly to my network. In the process I ran the install CD on my PC. Now I see the process "HPLaserJetService, exe" running every 5 or 6 seconds peaking at 19 to 22% CPU utilization. I've turned off the Alerts and exited the icon on the task bar (Windows XP) but it soes not stop. I could use those CPU cycles for something productive. I don't see what value I'm getting from HPLaserJetService, exe.
Can anybody tell me what it does and why I need it?? If I don't need it, how can I get rid of it??

I have the same concern with a new color laser m252, writing this in October, 2015. It uses the most cpu time next to "system idle process". Not sure what all the i/o bytes being transferred are. Sometimes I stop the service under the Services tab of the task manager, but it may have choked (blue screen'd) windows 7 when coming out of sleep in that state. It is terrible that HP has not answered this question yet. This service cannot be running properly using up this much cpu time.

I uninstalled that sucker a long time ago. It has nothing beneficial to do with running the printer. All the function you need can be accessed via your web browser by going to the printer's URL. On my network (I assume you have a router) it is http://npi69819d/. I have no experience with a peer to peer setup. The URL can be discovered via the printer's touch screen menus.

I had exactly tehe same problem where HPLaserJetServices was routinely consuming 20 to 25% of CPU resources on my MacBook Pro Retina with i7 CPU and 8GB RAM. It was made worse because Windows7 was running under Parallels, and the resulting CPU load caused my Mac to nearly grind to a halt.
This service is not required for your HP Printer to Print. I verified this. You should check for the latest drivers in the event HP has addressed this problem with a recent update. Go to your product support page for the model of your printer, and check for a more recent driver. In the event there is none, or the update does not address this problem, you can disable this service as follows. Whenever you make a cahnge to your service, be sure to note what you disable and and other setting if you wish to restore it.
You can disable HPLaserJetService through your Control Panel by going to Administrative Tools and and the selecting Services. Search the services list for
Double click the highlighted line which will bring up the properties dialog. Next click on the Stop button. This will stop the HPLaserJetService. Click the "Startup type" dropdown and change it from Automatic to Disabled then click the Apply button. This will prevent the service from restarting the next time you reboot Windows. That will fix your HPLaserJetService high CPU usage problem. You can use this method and the Windows Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Delete; then select Start Task Manager ) to investigate all the many other Windows high CPU problems.
