- Why on earthdoesn't HP provide a user manual in the box? Or...

It's a good little printer but absurdly hard to set up -- there are multiple "easy" setup tools (HP Smart, Printer Assistant, etc.) and no indication about which to use for what. And nothing in the box mentions that there is a USB cable connection on the back (and a tiny, WiFi on-off button right beside the tiny, early impossible-to-find power button.
If this came with a good instruction manual (which HP knows how to write), this would be a great printer. Instead, it's a pain in the neck until you stumble on ways to get it set up.
HP should drive a few miles south and take some lessons from Apple about making products that are easy and intuitive to use.

Sorry. To save trees and the earth nearly all vendors now do not print manuals for their products, believe this or not, many printed manuals may out-of-date in few months. Please read some smaller documents in the box, they should have URL for the printer home page which is
https://support.hp.com/au-en/product/hp-envy-pro-6400-all-in-one-printer-series/29256678/manuals
Note: All HP 64xx printers use same manuals for the series.
Hope this helps.
Regards.
