Hi @topman1

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how frustrating it feels when the printer works fine on Windows 10 but not on Windows 11. Thank you for already checking and confirming the basics.

Let’s go through a structured set of steps to help the MFP M28 FDW connect and function properly on Windows 11:

Remove old drivers

  • On your Windows 11 computer, press Windows + R, type control printers, and press Enter.
  • Right‑click your printer and select “Remove device.”
  • Disconnect the USB cable or disconnect the printer from Wi‑Fi temporarily.

Download the latest drivers and software

  • Visit the official HP support page: HP LaserJet Pro MFP M28-M31 series Software and Driver Downloads
  • Select Windows 11 as your operating system.
  • Download and install the “Full Feature Software and Drivers” package.

Install using the HP App

  • Open the HP App on your Windows 11 computer.
  • Add your printer by following the on‑screen prompts.
  • If using Wi‑Fi, ensure the printer and computer are on the same network.
  • If using USB, connect the cable only when the installer asks you to.

Run Diagnose & Fix

  • In the HP App, select your printer.
  • Go to “Printer Settings” and choose “Diagnose & Fix.”
  • Follow the guided steps to automatically resolve any communication issues.

Check Windows settings

  • Press Windows + I to open Settings.
  • Go to “Devices” > “Printers & scanners.”
  • Confirm your printer is listed and set as default.
  • Print a test page to verify functionality.

Update firmware

  • From the same HP support page, check if a firmware update is available for your printer model.
  • Install it to ensure compatibility with Windows 11.

After these steps, your printer should work seamlessly on Windows 11 just as it did on Windows 10. The most important part is removing the old drivers and installing the latest package specifically for Windows 11.
