I followed your suggestions to the letter but it didn't work. I can't remember if I loaded the update but think I did. I will give it another go. Just to be sure, the printer should be plugged in and connected to my HP laptop. Does on or oofline matter?

Trying this again- When I right click on 7 zip I get a menu with the following choices:Add to archive, compress and email, add to 7z..., compress to 7z, and email, add to 7Z...zip, and compress to 7Z...zip and email. Which is the correct selection?

Yes! Perfect solution. The 7-Zip didnt work but after unzipping using different utility it has got the printer up and running under windows 10 on a network. Now I can install on th other compters on the network.
Great solution, many thanks

When i was seeing your question here i tried to install HP 4000's driver for my Win7 x64.
Yes, it is in there the list menu and installed successfully without any problem.
It is built in Win7 x64 and i think it's in Win7 x32 too.
What i use is Chinese edition Win7 but i don't think it does any matter.
If it's not there in yours click the "Windows Update(W)" waiting for its endding then go back find again.
Or you can try to use HP 4 4+ 2100 2200 6P 1200 1300's driver in substitute.

It's already in Win7 find it on the menu list.
If it's not then click the "Windows Update(W)" waiting for its ending and go back finding again.
Or you can use HP 4 4+ 2100 2200 6P 1200 1300's driver ...... in substitute and it will work.
Here's a Chinese Edition Win7 x64 sample but it has no matter with what edition is.

I followed the recommended suggestion to update the HP LaserJet 4000 without success. One thing I did notice is when I searched for the printer it identified it as a HP 2500C Series Printer and not the HP LaserJet 4000. I was unable to locate the printer in device manager to see if I would be able to update the driver that way but not luck. I'm at a loss for now, any recommendations?

Also registered only to offer gratitude. These are very good, very economical, and very reliable laser jet duplex printers. Age dimishes their usefulness only to the extent that modern platforms struggle to handle legacy hardware. In my case, running Windows 8.1 x64 on a docked Lenovo Thinkpad, the system didn't even "see" the printer. Even though I went into Device Manager and right clicked to add legacy hardware, this model wasn't natively even on the list for HP printers. This, in part, is why I write. I am persuaded that I coaxed the system into adding this model to that list, by first going in and installing the INF file. Once you unzip/unpack the cabinet file Paul points to, and go into the folder that created, right click on the INF file and select Install. Bear in mind however, (or at least this was true for me), this does not mean now that y ou can go into Devices and Printers through the Control Panel and just right click printers to install a new one... as the sytem still may not recognize it as connected. I know only what worked for me, which was to go through DevMgr as I mentioned above. Again, Paul, thank you very much for this. ~Thomas

This was terrific. I spent hours with Microsoft and they concluded that my HP Laserjet 4 and HP Laserjet 4000 would not work on Windows 10 64 bit. I love both of those printers and this provided a perfect solution. I also have other HP printers, name a G85 and Officejet 8600 Pro. I love the way that HP supports it's great printers. That is why my only source when purchasing printers is HP.
