I'm helping a friend upgrade to a newer computer. It recognizes the printer under other devices but can't find it under Printers & Scanners. It works fine on her old machine.
I've found other people on these boards with Win 10 compatability issues but all your solutions are out of date with the creators update.
I found the driver that comes with windows and tried to install it manualy but got a "Printer driver was not installed" error.
Any sugestions?

There is not a Full Feature Software option for Windows 10.
You might regain basic print function for this older printer using the Windows 10 "Add a Printer" procedure.
HP Document and video:
Description: This document is for HP printers that do not have a full feature HP driver for Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 7, or Windows Vista.
If a full feature driver from HP is not available for your printer, you must install the built-in print driver.

Unfortunately, the how-to document provides only a limited number of options to try when the USB port is not immediately available.
I cannot in any way duplicate your setup -- If find anything useful to add, I will post back.
@greenturtle - Member reports that the how-to document is not ... helping "how to" connect his USB printer during the Add-a-Printer procedure. Any words of wisdom? TIA.

@Dragon-Fur will try my best 🙂
Hi @dramey,
Thanks for using the HP Forums.
Just leave it as "Use an the exisiting port" and go to "Next". Select "Windows Update" (it will take a long time, may be more than 10 mins). Make sure that the USB cable is connected to the printer.
Select HP > PSC 950 when the update is completed.
Hope that helps!
