Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Having real difficulty with Windows 10 talking to my HP C309a network printer.  From searching the internet, it looks like a common problem, but I can't seem to find a solution.

My printer is using a wired ethernet connection and is used by various machines on my home network.  Macs and Linux machines are all able to work fine.  Printing with all options, scanning etc, so I think the device is fine.

I have two windows machines - both relatively modern spec (8th Generation intel i5 / i7) - one's an HP Pavilion laptop, the other's a home-build desktop.  Both are running the 64-bit edition of Windows 10.

The Windows machines can find the printer and set it up, however printing anything results in the first document coming out of the printer then getting stuck in the print queue on the computer in a state of "printing".  Nothing else can print.  Deleting the item just changes the status to "Deleting", but it never goes.  Restarting the print spooler (as suggested on other sites) or rebooting generally prints a second copy of the document, and leaves the queue blocked again.  Deleting and re-adding the printer clears the queue, but the problem immediately re-occurs on the next print.

Things I've tried:

- Installing and running HP Print and Scan Doctor.  It took forever to install and just said it couldn't find any printers.  I even gave it the IP address of the printer (I can load the printer's web page in a browser window on the same machine, so there's definitely a connection).

- Downloading an HP-supplied driver.  The most recent one dates from 2015 (and looks a lot older).  It installed and told me it couldn't find my printer either.

- Deleting and re-installing the printer using the Windows settings.  This had no obvious effect.

Is there another driver I can try, or a way I can refresh the driver that's installed with Windows?

I reviewed your post and I understand that you are facing issues printing from your windows computer.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

I recommend you root uninstall the printer and then reinstall it and check whether the issue is resolved.

Here is how it is done.

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

13.) Restart the PC

14.) Download and install the printer software from the below link.
