HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello,

My small business has recently upgraded and reinstalled all client computers to Windows 11 Pro and our procedures are strict not to use outdated features or known upcoming deprecations of features in the Windows operating system environment.

Everything has gone surprisingly well except for one thing, the transition to Windows protected print mode with the new Microsoft IPP Class Driver.

Biggest problems we have encountered so far:
- A3 printing is completely unusable and only prints in grayscale with extremely blurry/corrupted details.
- The flatbed scanner no longer works as intended, only the input tray scanner seems to work.

- The color reproduction on A4 printing is not as good as before and sometimes reproduces artifacts when printing graphics, for example when printing documents that contain the company's graphic profile.

Main question:
Will existing printers, such as the HP OfficeJet Pro 7740, become fully compatible (every All-in-One features) with Windows protected print mode and receive related firmware updates in the near future due to the upcoming/expected mandatory implementation of Windows protected print mode?

Hi @frekje,

While it's likely that HP will release firmware updates to enable some level of compatibility with Windows Protected Print Mode (WPP) on existing printers like the OfficeJet Pro 7740 in the near future, we don't have any updates as of now, we've already confirmed that your printer is Mopria certified as per this link: https://mopria.org/certifiedproducts#company30 so it should work, however, it may take time until all features are supported.

https://kaas.hpcloud.hp.com/pdf-public/pdf_11587654_en-US-1.pdf < more details about the updates on protected print are mentioned here

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi,

Thanks for the answer, but I don't think you understood my question... The question is not about how to activate Windows protected print mode, we already know how to do this and how it works. The problem is that several printing or scanning functions no longer work as intended with the HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 such as A3 color printing or flatbed scanning when using Windows protected print mode with the associated IPP Class Driver.

The printer's support for the Microsoft IPP Class Driver is simply very poor and completely unusable at the moment as we experience it.
