Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Is there a driver available to install on windows7 64 bit for HP Envy 6100e printer?

When I enter it on their website, I get this download: Envy_6100_6100e_6100r_DJPIA_6100_6.22.4.65

But I can't do anything with it. I can't install or update anything with this download. Everything is grayed out.

Isn't there a driver we can just install?

Thanks

Hi @Trudx,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand you’re trying to install your HP Envy 6100e printer on a Windows 7 (64-bit) PC, but the driver package you downloaded (Envy_6100_6100e_6100r_DJPIA_6100_6.22.4.65) doesn’t let you proceed. Let’s go through a few steps to clarify the situation and what you can try next.

1. Know the Compatibility Limitation

The HP Envy 6100e series is part of HP’s “e-series” printers that are designed for Windows 10 and newer.

HP does not provide a traditional, standalone Windows 7 driver for the 6100e models.

The package you downloaded is a diagnostic/installer wrapper (DJPIA) that relies on newer Windows components, which is why everything is grayed out on Windows 7.

2. Check for Built-in Windows Update Drivers

While not fully featured, sometimes Windows 7’s “Add Printer” wizard can find a basic driver.

Connect the printer to the PC via USB cable.

Go to Control Panel → Devices and Printers → Add a Printer.

Choose Add a Local Printer → select the detected USB port.

Click Windows Update (this may take a few minutes).

See if a basic HP driver is listed that will allow at least simple printing.

Most 6100e-series devices won’t appear here, but it’s worth checking.

3. Use HP Smart / Full Feature Software

HP Smart is the primary way to install and use the 6100e, but it is not supported on Windows 7.

The full-feature software also requires Windows 10 or later, so you won’t be able to run it successfully on Windows 7.

4. Workarounds if You Must Stay on Windows 7

Upgrade the PC: For full support (driver + HP Smart), a move to Windows 10/11 is required.

Network Printing from Another PC:

Install the printer on a Windows 10/11 PC.

Share it over the network so the Windows 7 machine can send print jobs.

Generic Print Driver: In some cases, you can use a “Generic PCL” or “DeskJet class” driver on Windows 7 for basic text printing, but scanning and advanced features won’t work.

I hope this helps.

Hi @Trudx,

Thank you for sharing your update. I understand the frustration, unfortunately, the HP Envy 6100e series does not have dedicated Windows 7 drivers, as it was designed for Windows 10 and later.

Here are your next steps depending on your situation:

If you need full printer and scanner functionality:
You’ll need to use a PC running Windows 10 or newer, as that’s the only platform officially supported by HP Smart and the full-feature drivers.

If you must stay on Windows 7:

Try connecting the printer by USB cable and use Control Panel → Devices and Printers → Add Printer → Windows Update to see if a generic DeskJet or PCL driver is available.

This will usually allow only basic printing (no scanning or advanced features).

Alternative option:

If you have access to a Windows 10/11 PC, you can install and share the printer on that PC over your network.

Your Windows 7 system can then send print jobs to it using a generic driver.

I hope this clarifies why the installer won’t run on Windows 7 and gives you practical paths forward.

If this information helps, please mark the reply as “Accepted Solution” so it’s easier for others with similar questions to find.

Hi @Trudx

There is no drivers for Windows 7 for this printer model, because this Envy 6100e was designed to work with Windows 10 and Windows 11.

However there could be an alternative installation downloading a basic driver then going to Control Panel > Printers > Add Printer option.

1 . Download the next basic driver.

2.  Then add printer from Control Panel using steps from the next video:
