Dvortek,
Following the intructions you described I have successfully installed my HP6700 wirelessly.
The setup application for the printer could not find the printer, but I then switched to the Add printers and scanners routine in the laptop's Windows Settings/Devices area.
At first it coun't find the printer either, but after I searched by the new manual IP, it found and set the printer as default.
Hooray!
Spent about 6-8 hours fussing with this, but we got there.
Thanks for all your help.

Hello, @Mamaluke – Greetings!
Thanks for engaging in the HP Forums! I see by your post that you are having trouble with your HP printer. I will certainly do my best to help you 🙂
Going through your post, I understand that printer is having trouble installing the Officejet printer. Is the printer already connected to the network? If so, please try the steps below to assign a static IP to the printer:
- Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to get the IP address.
- Type the IP address on your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
- Go to "Network" tab - General - Select "Network protocols" - Select "Enable IPv4 only" (or similar) - Apply the settings.
- Go to the “Network” tab – Click on “Wireless (802.11) – Then click on “Network address (IPv4)
- Click on the radio button which says “Manual IP” and then click “Suggest a manual IP address” to give a manual IP address to your printer.
- Click on radio button which says “Manual DNS Server” and under manual preferred type 8.8.8.8 and under manual alternate type 8.8.4.4 (This is Google DNS server address)
- Restart the printer and then router once done.
Now, I’d suggest you perform a clean install to try and fix the issue:
- First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.
- Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Officejet printer entries and uninstall them.
- Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
- Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (There is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.
- Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
- Again, go to the Run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
- Restart your computer.
- Now click http://hp.care/2oEOlYY to install the software.
- Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
Those steps should do the trick, let me know the outcome!
Cheers 🙂

Thanks for responding Dvortex.
Just to be clear, my HP6700 is connected to my PC via a USB cable and works fine in this configuration.
I am trying to connect my wife's laptop to the printer via our home wireless network.
To accomplish the static IP assignment and clean install, do I need to I remove the USB cable from my PC first, or can I just perform the steps using my wife's laptop without doing that first?

Hello, @Mamaluke
You can perform the steps without disconnecting the cable from your PC.
But make sure your printer is connected to the home network before attempting those steps. Check the printer wireless light. If the light blinks, then the printer is not connected to the network. If the light is on & not blinking then the printer is connected to the network and you can follow the steps listed in my above post on your wife's PC.
If not connected, follow the steps below to connect the printer:
-
Press the Power button to turn on the printer.
-
Touch the right arrow
to display the second navigation screen.
-
Touch Setup
, and then touch Network.
-
Touch Wireless Setup Wizard, and then touch Continue. The Wireless Setup Wizard searches for networks, and then displays them in a list.
-
If necessary, touch the down arrow
to scroll through the network names until you find yours.
-
Touch the name of your network, and then touch OK.
-
If prompted, enter the WEP key or WPA key and press ok.
Hope that helps! Let me know 🙂
Good luck!

Dvortek,
Seems I spoke too soon.
I was able to print a test page and a page from a Word document then proclaimed victory.
Decided to turn the laptop off and back on.
Laptop is now unable to communicate with printer again; it can't find it.
Printer status panel says it is connected.
I'm oing to try uninstalling the HP sw and re-install again.
I'll let you know what happens.

I gave up on trying to connect to the printer using my wireless network and tried to set the printer up using the Wireless Direct feature.
I eventually got the laptop to recognize the printer and connect to it wirelessly, though independent of the home wireless network.
This morning I decided to try connecting to the wireless network one more time.
Enabled the wireless network on the printer and tried a test page from the laptop. It worked, so I tried a Word document. That worked too.
Restarted the laptop and had my wife logon, then print another Word document. Finally!
I guess that once I was able to get the laptop to connect to the printer using the Wireless Direct, the Driver sw could complete the steps needed to use the more elegant solution.

Hello, @Mamaluke
Thanks for the update & Great stuff! Glad to know that you were able to fix the issue after days of struggle:)
Alternatively, if you face any issues with the printer in future, try to fix it using HP Print and Scan Doctor (PSDR). PSDR is an automated tool which can diagnose and resolve printing and scanning problems. Please go to http://hp.care/2bZ9w2q to download and run HP PSDR. Once you open the program, select your printer and click on “Fix Printing” to automatically diagnose and fix the issue.
Visit us again if you have any concerns!
Thank you again and may you also have a great day and even better tomorrow 🙂

I am hugely frustrated by the litany of error messages and wasted hours I have spent with this printer. I cannot describe how angry I am that such a sub-standard product is allowed to reach the market. I want to make a complaint and am sent to public forum. I just don't understand. Apologies for those of you wanting a helpful contribution, I am just too furious to say anything that will help others.
