OfficeJet 4635
macOS 10.12 Sierra

My computer cannot find my wireless HP OfficeJet 4635 all-in-one printer. I am trying to reinstall the software (https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-officejet-4630-e-all-in-one-printer-series/53050...) for my printer since my printer was deleted from my iMac.

The software is installed and when it gets to trying to find my printer, none can be found. My printer is connected to the same wireless account as all our devices (iMac, phones, iPads, etc). All of our devices have internet-so nothing is wrong with our wireless.

My printer says it is connected to our wireless account, so why can't the HP software find my computer? I've tried to manually enter in our printer and that doesn't work.  I've called Apple and my wireless profider for help and they all say this is a printer problem and to contact HP.

PLEASE HELP!!!

Hello, @kw23 – Greetings!

Welcome back to the HP Forums, I'd be happy to help you with your printer connectivity issue 🙂

I understand that you are having issues while connecting the printer to the MAC. Let’s first assign a static IP to the printer. Here are the steps:

  • Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to get the IP address.
  • Type the IP address on your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
  • Go to "Network" tab - General - Select "Network protocols" - Select "Enable IPv4 only" (or similar) - Apply the settings.
  • Go to the “Network” tab – Click on “Wireless (802.11) – Then click on “Network address (IPv4)
  • Click on the radio button which says “Manual IP” and then click “Suggest a manual IP address” to give a manual IP address to your printer.
  • Click on radio button which says “Manual DNS Server” and under manual preferred type 8.8.8.8 and under manual alternate type 8.8.4.4 (This is Google DNS server address)
  • Restart the printer and then router once done.

Now, try the steps below to reset the print system and to add the printer to your MAC:

  • Click the Apple menu icon, and then click “System Preferences”.
  • Click “Printers and Scanner” / “Print and Scan” or “Print and Fax”.
  • Right-click the blank space in the Printers list, and then click “Reset printing system”.
  • Click “Reset” in the confirmation window.
  • Enter an administrator username and password, and then click “OK”.
  • Wait until the printing system is reset and no devices show in the Printers list
  • Restart your computer and then go back to System preferences – Printers and scanners.
  • Click the “Add button” (+).
  • Find, and then select the name of your printer from the printer list, and then click “Add” to add your printer.
  • Click “Print Using...”, and then select the name of your printer (By default “AirPrint” would be selected)

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Good luck 🙂

Thanks for your response, but that did not help. We thought it was the printer, so we went out today and purchased a new HP OfficeJet printer, but this time a #4655.

We followed the instructions to set up the wireless printer. The printer will print from our iMac and states that it is connected to our wifi network. But we are still having the same issue: the printer will not print from our iPhone or iPads. We used to have no problem with this. Now this new printer (and the old printer) aren't picked up by our phones/pads wirelessly. This is so confusing and frustrating. We have only 1 wireless network in the house and the printer, iMac, and phones/pads are all on the same network. Why then, can't we print from our phones/pads?

Hello, @kw23

Thanks for the update!

You can try using the Wi-Fi direct feature on your printer to connect the printer directly to the iOS device. Connect your Apple iOS device directly to the printer with Wi-Fi Direct or HP wireless direct as suggested below:

  1. On the printer, make sure a solid blue light is on next to the Wi-Fi Direct/HP wireless direct button  or an Wi-Fi Direct/HP wireless direct  icon displays on the control panel.

  2. Press the Wi-Fi Direct/HP wireless direct button or navigate the control panel menu settings to find and touch Wi-Fi Direct/HP wireless direct.

  3. On your Apple iOS device, tap Settings, and then tap Wi-Fi.

  4. Under the Choose a network menu, select your printer. The printer name begins with DIRECT.

If prompted, type a password. The default password is 12345678.

Now, try the steps below to print:

  1. In the app that you want to print from, tap the Action icon ( or ) to display the menu options.
  2. Tap Print. The Printer Options menu displays.
  3. On the Printer Options menu, tap Select Printer. A list of available printers on the network displays.
  4. Tap your HP ePrint printer in the drop-down menu. The Printer Options menu displays again and shows your selected printer.
  5. If you do not need to change print options, tap Print to send the print job to the HP printer.

Let me know how that goes!

Have a great day 🙂
