Hi @AlanaB,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP DeskJet 2800 printer is able to print from your cell phone but not from your MacBook Pro running macOS Ventura 13.6.9, and print jobs are disappearing from the queue, here’s a systematic approach to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
1. Check Printer and Mac Connectivity
Verify Printer Status:
- Ensure your printer is turned on and connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your MacBook Pro.
Check Printer Connection:
- Make sure the printer is correctly set up and not showing any errors on the printer’s display or in the HP Smart app.
2. Restart Devices
Restart Your MacBook Pro:
- Go to the Apple menu and select Restart.
Restart the Printer:
- Turn off the printer, wait about 30 seconds, and then turn it back on.
3. Update Printer Software
HP Smart App:
- Ensure you have the latest version of the HP Smart app installed on your MacBook Pro. You can download or update it from the Mac App Store.
Printer Drivers:
- Visit the HP Support website and download the latest drivers for the DeskJet 2800 series. Install any available updates.
4. Re-add the Printer on Your Mac
Open System Settings:
- Go to Apple Menu > System Settings.
Navigate to Printers & Scanners:
- Select Printers & Scanners from the sidebar.
Remove Existing Printer:
- Select your DeskJet 2800 from the list and click the - button to remove it.
Re-add the Printer:
- Click the + button to add a printer. Select your DeskJet 2800 from the list and follow the prompts to add it again.
5. Check Print Queue and Reset Printing System
Open Print Queue:
- Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners, select your DeskJet 2800, and click Open Print Queue. Check if there are any stuck print jobs.
Reset Printing System:
- If the queue is empty or not clearing, you might need to reset the printing system. Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners, right-click (or Control-click) in the printer list, and select Reset Printing System. This will remove all printers and reset the printing system. After resetting, you’ll need to re-add your printer.
6. Verify Printer Preferences
Check Printer Preferences:
- Ensure the default paper size and type settings match what is loaded in the printer. Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners, select your DeskJet 2800, and check the settings.
Check Print Settings:
- When printing, make sure the print settings are correctly configured and match the document you are trying to print.
7. Check for macOS Updates
- Update macOS:
- Ensure your macOS is up-to-date. Go to Apple Menu > System Settings > General > Software Update to check for updates and install any that are available.
8. Test Different Applications
- Try Different Applications:
- Attempt to print from different applications (e.g., Safari, TextEdit, Microsoft Word) to see if the issue is application-specific.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
