@JohnT34, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP DeskJet 2855e is stuck in "Wi-Fi Direct" (often referred to as "Direct Print") mode and you're unable to switch it back to regular Wi-Fi or USB mode, here are the steps you can follow to resolve the issue:
Restart the Printer:
- Turn off the printer.
- Unplug it from the power source for 30 seconds.
- Plug it back in and turn it on.
Restore Network Settings:
- On the printer control panel, press and hold the Wireless and Cancel buttons together for 5 seconds.
- This will reset the network settings and disable Wi-Fi Direct.
Reconnect to Wi-Fi:
- Use the HP Smart App on your PC or mobile device.
- Select Set Up a New Printer and follow the prompts to connect the printer to your Wi-Fi network.
- Make sure your device is on the same Wi-Fi network.
Disable Wi-Fi Direct (if needed):
- If Wi-Fi Direct is still active, you can disable it via the Embedded Web Server (EWS):
- Find the printer’s IP address (printed on a network configuration page or visible in the HP Smart app).
- Enter the IP address in a web browser.
- Go to Network > Wi-Fi Direct and turn it off.
Update Printer Firmware:
- Visit the HP DeskJet 2855e support page.
- Download and install the latest firmware and drivers for your printer.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
