Won't print multiple pages onto single sheet despite setup being changed to do that

There is an option to be able to print multiple pages onto a single sheet of paper (this reduces the original image, but this is what i want anyhow).  I set up the changes both in the general printing instruction and the printing properties (advanced). The preview shows the correct setup, but the printer will only print one image (though shrunk) per page without any indication how I'm supposed to re-insert the page if I'm supposed to manually do this.
