In WordPad, as soon as Page Setup is changed from the default portrait to landscape, Wordpad instantly shuts down, with no popup message warnings. This problem only occurred after purchase and installation (used online option instead of enclosed CD) of the Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281fdw printer and its software driver in September 2018. The wireless configuration on the printer is off; it is connected directly to computer's USB port only with the cable HP supplied. The steps to recreate are simply: 1) Open WordPad (Windows Accessories > WordPad) 2) File > Page Setup > Orientation - Landscape; and then WordPad disappears from your screen.
Since this question was also asked by member MTD2018 in post https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Software-and-Drivers/Wordpad-crashes-when-changing-orientation... and remains unresolved for 5 months (uninstall/reinstall did not help), please address this problem.

Hi,
Please try installing HP UPD and let me know if that may make any change.
To install it download and run the following, then follow the steps on screen:
https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/COL40842/ds-99374-19/upd-pcl6-x64-6.6.0.23029.exe
Select Traditional Mode while installing, then select the printer port which is likely USB001.
If there are several USB ports open Devices and Printers, right click your printer icon and select Printer Properties.
Within the Ports tab note the selected port for your pritner and close that dialog, select the same port within the HP UPD Add Printer wizard.
During the wizard set the UPD driver as default and complete the installation.
Once done close and open Wordpad, then check if you may see any difference with the installed alternate driver.
