Is there a workaround for printing from a Chromebook to a USB connected HP Laser Jet P1005?

I have installed HP Print for Chrome and the message comes that the device isn't supported.

The printer is seen by the Chromebook in the installed printers.

The Play library doesn't see HP Print for Chrome in installed apps to try and update.

The printer is reliable cheap old but why throw it away?

No,

Such an Host-Based printer cannot be used with a Chromebook, it is too old and too limited for such an environment.

 

The only option would be to connect the printer to another computer and set it as a Classic Printer, which requires the other PC to be on to print, and Google Cloud Print services are expected to be discontinued at the end of this year:
