Oddly enough, i changed the ink. It worked perfectly for about 50 pages. Coloured double sided. Printed beautifully. And then mid print, it stopped and reverted back to the original issue: of it has no error code, no low ink notification, it just says that it has a print job but despite it sitting with my laptop close by, on same wifi, it won't print. 

 

When I was having issues before, I did a reset. And then when I turned it back on, I turned off future updates because I was hoping to avoid this in the future. Is that possible part of the issue?

I think there is a problem with the printhead.  See if ink has leaked and dried.

 

As far as know there is no limit for duplex printing but dust is always present and possible a pickup roller had a problem and it stopped.  The error messages would be paper feed problem not ink though.  Auto duplex puts a lot of stress on any printer.

How old is your 8710?  Printheads eventual need to be replaced and some of the cheaper printer it is not worth while.   The 8710 printhead runs $60 and a new printer 8710 goes for almost 600.

 

I would not upgrade any firmware, especially if it limited you to buying only HP ink.

Okay I will check the printhead and see if I need to clean or replace it. I got this printer from a friend. I believe it is several years old.

The EWS app can show how many pages were printed and possible the manufactured date.
