Hi, I recently purchased HP Smart Tank 500 printer and has it setup with my PC. I guess I have setup password on HP Smart app but I do not remember. While trying to access advanced settings from HP smart application on my PC I'm getting password prompts "a custom password has been set for your printer. Enter the password to access the printer web interface."

Please help me reset this password or the printer. Thank you.

Hi @Partha1002,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd like to help!

I appreciate your efforts to try and resolve the issue. You might have to reset your EWS login credentials.

Let's try these steps to resolve the issue:

Perform a power reset:

  1. Turn on the printer, if it is not already on.
  2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
  3. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  4. Wait at least 30 seconds.
  5. Plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet and printer without any surge protector.
  6. Turn on the printer.

Restore Network Defaults to factory settings:

  • Press the Wireless button and the Cancel button from the printer control panel at the same time, and then hold them for five seconds. If this fails try the next method.

  • While holding the power button, press and hold the black copy button and the resume button at the same time until the spinning wheel appears on the display.

Login to the EWS page with the default credentials and change the password.

  • Username: admin
  • Password: "leave it blank"

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Thank you so much, it worked. Otherwise would have to take this to a service center as per the tech support team. You're a lifesaver😃. Thanks again.
