HP OfficeJet Pro 8210 Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

I bought this renewed  8210 Office Jet from Amazon at the end of August 2022, which was working fine UNTIL about 4 days ago (just after the return window closed)  when a 8210 "Update required" appeared: "A problem has occurred with one the printer's critical system file."

After that appeared - not installed - the screen locked up, meaning buttons do nothing, and the carriage is also locked in place and never moves.  and also unlike a few days ago, the printer is not even shown (W/11, 64 bit) and cannot be detected via USB or Ethernet or wirelessly despite full resets, uninstalls and reboots, thus the update cannot be installed.

And the 8210 is also not detected under Linux Mint either, though my other printers are.

I have tried using  a different USB port, and USB cable, as well as different AC connection and full resets, uninstalls and reboot and   the below procedures,

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printing-Errors-or-Lights-Stuck-Print-Jobs/Officejet-Pro-8210-Update-R...

and https://www.easyprintersupport.com/fix-hp-printer-in-error-state

My issue may be related to what was unknown to me when I bought it and let Windows install it, is what is shown when installing the HP Full_Webpack-38.10.2004-OJ8210_Full_Webpack.exe,

"Please note that this printer uses dynamic security measures to block cartridges using a non-HP chip, and periodic firmware updates will maintain the effectiveness of these measures and block cartridges that previously worked. The printer is intended to work only with new or reused cartridges that have a new or reused HP chip."

https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact/product/hp-officejet-pro-8210-printer-series/7902063/model/7902... says, Sorry, we are unable to determine if there are any support agent options for your location at this time.

Another user said HP's solution to those with the same issue and being out of warranty, was “sorry the printer can’t receive the update to fix the issue, your solution is to buy a new one.”

THAT is simply no respectable solution.

. Via https://www.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp/phone-assist.html I was able to get to and speak with a HP support person, who, besides my telling him the above, he had to obtain permission to use my PC to try to get it working, and saw for himself that it could not be detected. They will be sending out a renewed replacement, and I use the same box to ship the old unit back in it. Thank God for His grace
