Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard and older

hp psc 2410 photosmart printer, circa 1998.  

Macbook Air M1

Printer connected to mac with USB cable

Get a 'filter' failed message so I cannot print anything.

 

What is different about my case is that there is no updated driver for this printer on MacBook Air M1, but it should not need an updated driver just to print.

After reading through various threads and finding nothing of value, I decided to print it from an old Compaq Armada 7800 circa 2002 running Windows 2000.  No problem, it works!

 

Is there a workaround so I can print from the MacBook Air M1?  Crazy to think I cannot use this printer with the mac.
