Hi @cperez00

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

The blinking exclamation point on your HP LaserJet MFP M140we printer typically indicates an issue that requires attention.

Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:

Step 1: Check for Common Issues

  1. Paper Jam:
    • Open the printer and check for any paper jams or obstructions.
    • Remove any stuck paper carefully.
  2. Toner Cartridge:
    • Ensure the toner cartridge is properly installed and not empty.
    • If the toner is low, replace it with a compatible cartridge.
  3. Paper Tray:
    • Verify that the paper is loaded correctly in the tray and that it meets the printer's specifications.

Step 2: Reset the Printer

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Wait for 2–3 minutes.
  3. Plug it back in and turn it on. This can reset the system and clear minor errors.

Step 3: Update Printer Firmware

  1. Visit the HP Support website and download the latest firmware for your printer model.
  2. Install the firmware update and restart the printer.

Step 4: Perform a Power Drain

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and unplug it from the wall outlet.
  2. Wait for 2–3 minutes.
  3. Press and hold the power button on the printer for about 30 seconds to remove any residual charge.
  4. Reconnect the power cord directly to a wall outlet (avoid using surge protectors or extension cords) and turn the printer back on.

Step 5: Check the HP Smart App

  1. Open the HP Smart App on your computer or mobile device.
  2. Look for any error messages or notifications that might explain the issue.
  3. Follow the app’s troubleshooting steps to resolve the problem.

A blinking exclamation point on your HP LaserJet MFP M140we usually indicates an error or alert condition that needs attention before you can print. Here are the common causes and how to fix them:

Step-by-Step Troubleshooting

1. Check the HP Smart App

- Open the HP Smart app on your computer or phone (if installed).

- It will usually give you a more detailed explanation of the issue (e.g., paper jam, low toner, offline status).

- If you don’t have it, you can download it from HP Smart.

2. Check for Common Physical Issues

- Paper Jam: Open the printer and look for any jammed paper.

- No Paper: Make sure the paper tray is loaded.

- Low or Empty Toner: Check the toner level using the app or printer software.

- Front Door Open: Ensure all access doors are securely closed.

- Incorrect Paper Size/Type: Make sure the settings match the paper in the tray.

3. Restart the Printer

- Turn it off. - Unplug the power cable for 30 seconds.

- Plug it back in and turn it on.

4. Check Wireless Connection

- Make sure your printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer or phone.

- A blinking exclamation point can also signal a network issue.

5. Update Printer Firmware

- Sometimes errors are caused by outdated firmware. - Use HP Smart or go to the HP support site to check for firmware updates.
