Has anyone else have this problem. I am trying to stop a mistakenly started long print job. I am given this message.
Unable to stop printer.
You must be an administrator to pause the queue.
I am the only user of this computer and am the administrator.
The support desk blames it on Apple and says they cannot help me.
Apple says it is an HP problem

Hi @papogolus
Welcome to the HP support community.
I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP device, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today.
Here's what you can try to resolve this problem:
1. Verify Admin Privileges
Even if you're the only user, there might be an issue with how your system is recognizing your admin privileges for the printer queue. To confirm:
- Go to System Preferences > Users & Groups.
- Make sure your user account is listed as an Administrator.
- If it's already set to Administrator, try logging out and logging back in to refresh any permissions.
2. Force Quit the Print Job
You can try to force quit the print job through Activity Monitor on your Mac. This will stop the printer from processing the stuck print job.
- Open Activity Monitor from Applications > Utilities.
- In the Search bar at the top-right, type "cupsd" (this is the print service).
- Select the process, then click the "X" button to quit it.
Once you’ve done that, try going back to the Print Queue to see if you can cancel the job.
3. Manually Cancel the Print Job in Printer Queue
If force quitting doesn’t work, you can try manually canceling the print job:
- Open the Print Queue by clicking on the Apple menu > System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
- Select your HP DeskJet 4155e and click on the Open Print Queue button.
- If the print job is still stuck, click on the Cancel button or Delete the job.
4. Restart the Printer and Computer
If canceling the job manually doesn't work, try restarting both the printer and your computer to reset the print queue.
- Turn off your printer and unplug it for about 30 seconds. This will help clear any pending jobs.
- After restarting your printer, restart your Mac as well.
Once both devices are restarted, check the print queue again.
5. Reset the Printing System
If the issue persists, you might want to try resetting the entire printing system on your Mac. This can help resolve any corrupted printer settings that might be causing the issue:
- Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
- Right-click (or Control-click) on the printer list and select Reset Printing System.
- Confirm that you want to reset the system. This will remove all printers from the list, so you’ll need to add your printer back afterward.
After resetting, add your HP DeskJet 4155e printer again and see if the issue is resolved.
6. Reinstall the Printer Driver
Sometimes, a corrupted printer driver can cause print jobs to get stuck or fail to cancel. Reinstalling the printer driver might fix the problem:
- Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
- Select your HP DeskJet 4155e printer and click the minus (-) sign to remove it.
- Download the latest printer drivers from the HP support website or use Apple Software Update to reinstall the printer.
- Once reinstalled, try to cancel the print job again.
I hope this helps! Keep me posted.

I am verified that am an administrator. I have restarted my computer multiple times. I have den a force stop. But when I got to print the ole job is still in the queue before I can print anything else.
I found mu own workaround. Remove the printer from my lists of printers. Then add it back in and the queue si empty.
It makes no sense to me that I can remove a printer but not stop a print job. This is a bug.
